First-Order Logic Proofs using Connectionist Constraints Relaxation

چکیده

This paper considers the problem of expressing predicate calculus in connectionist networks that are based on energy minimization. Given a first-order-logic knowledge base and a bound k, a symmetric network is constructed (like a Boltzman machine or a Hopfield network) that searches for a proof fora given query. If a resolution-based proof is length no longer k exists, then the global minima of the energy function that is associated with the network represent such proofs. If no proof exist then the global minima indicate the lack of a proof. The network that is generated is of size polynomial in the bound k and the knowledge size. There are no restrictions on the type of logic formulas that can be represented. An extension enables the mechanism to copy with inconsistency in the knowledge base; i.e. a query is entailed if there exists a proof supporting the query and no "better" (or equally "good") proof exists supporting its negation. Fault tolerance is obtained since symbolic roles are dynamically assigned to units and many units are competing... Read complete abstract on page 2.

Integrating First-Order Logic Programs and Connectionist Systems — A Constructive Approach

Significant advances have recently been made concerning the integration of symbolic knowledge representation with artificial neural networks (also called connectionist systems). However, while the integration with propositional paradigms has resulted in applicable systems, the case of first-order knowledge representation has so far hardly proceeded beyond theoretical studies which prove the exi...

Lifted Relax, Compensate and then Recover: From Approximate to Exact Lifted Probabilistic Inference

We propose an approach to lifted approximate inference for first-order probabilistic models, such as Markov logic networks. It is based on performing exact lifted inference in a simplified first-order model, which is found by relaxing first-order constraints, and then compensating for the relaxation. These simplified models can be incrementally improved by carefully recovering constraints that ...

A Fully Connectionist Model Generator for Covered First-Order Logic Programs

We present a fully connectionist system for the learning of first-order logic programs and the generation of corresponding models: Given a program and a set of training examples, we embed the associated semantic operator into a feed-forward network and train the network using the examples. This results in the learning of first-order knowledge while damaged or noisy data is handled gracefully.

Using Connectionist Term Representations for First-Order Deduction - A Critical View

By means of the computation of the semantics of rst order logic programs we discuss the application of the connectionist term representations HRR, LRAAM and RAAM for solving a classical symbolic problem by connectionist techniques. We express the requirements we have on connectionist term representations in general and how they are met by the examined models. In the outcome we will see that usi...
